  • Beskrivelse: In their childhood, Oene, the son of a Frisian crofter, and Anke, the daughter of a bargee, rarely have an oppoortunity to play, because of the tasks they have to perform at home, where they are treated as full-time workers. When they grow up, they meet each other - he as a framhand and she as a milkmaid - working at the same farm. They fall in love, get married and rent a small fram for themselves. Anke becomes ill and dies. Left alone, Oene is unable to run his farm and decides to go into service once again as a farmhand. As the years go by, his only 'capital' - his vitality - diminishes and he is dismissed. At the wit's end, he is forced to papply for poor relief. The film ends with an appeal to viewers to join the union striving to obtain from the State old-age pension for everyone.
